My dad belongs to a WWII re-enactment group, and I recently joined because I love history and thought it might be interesting/fun to portray a 1940s-era nurse. Anyway, the group participated in a military timeline event in PA recently, where re-enactment groups portraying soldiers from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI and WWII all got together to show people (at a respectable social distance, I promise!) some of the equipment and accessories appropriate to each time period.

I was asked to make a patriotic cake for the event, so I went with a vanilla cake, dyed blue and red, with white buttercream frosting and a custom patriotic sprinkle mix to jazz it up. When it was cut open and sliced, it looked like the American flag, with the blue on top and the red and white stripes. It was a big hit, so I have a feeling I may be making more military-themed cakes in the future...
